This is the sixth in the series of IEEE CAS Workshop/Symposiums on Emerging Technologies in Circuits and Systems, and continues an emphasis on the technologies for wireless communication. Third generation (3G) cellular mobile voice and data systems are being launched, but the industry still needs powerful, low–cost technologies in the tradition of those that stimulated the overwhelming success of 2G systems. This is the critical time to pause, reflect on the technologies we have, and look ahead to new technologies and both 3G–4G and wireless LAN (WLAN) systems that they will make possible. Keywords: Mixed–Signal Integrated Circuits
Low Power Circuits
Space–Time Processing
Power Control Issues
Interference Cancellation in multiple–user systems
Interference mitigation between wireless systems
Device Technologies
Digital circuits for modulation
Software radio
Multiple air interface devices
Smart Antennas
MIMO Channels and Capacity
Ultra Wideband (UWB) Radio
Sensor Devices and Networks
Channel Estimation and Tracking
Technologies for Internet appliances
Compatibility of wireless LAN systems
Cellular mobile/WLAN interoperability
WLAN device technologies
Industry views on future systems and networks
