The rapid advances in computing and wireless communication technologies along with their integration into commodity devices such as personal digital assistants, mobile phones, and portable computers provide a technical infrastructure that enables a broad range of mobile services and applications. These include scenarios where seamless access to a computing infrastructure is provided, scenarios where interaction and data sharing among mobile users occur in mobile ad hoc networks, and hybrid scenarios that combine these two.<br>The continued miniaturization of computing devices along with improvements in the performance/price ratio enable new services and applications, e.g., in environmental monitoring and transportation.
