Abstract

The purpose of the Applied Imagery Pattern Recognition (AIPR) annual workshops is to bring together researchers from government, industry, and academia in an elegant setting conducive to technical interchange across a broad range of disciplines. The papers span a range from research to fielded systems and provide, to managers and developers alike, a broad vision of the applicability of image analysis technologies. Keywords: <LI>Extraction of Information from Video: for identifying time–varying elements (distinct features and objects) in consecutive images. <LI>Real–Time Event Understanding: identifying time–varying events from image sequences, as opposed to recognizing distinct features and objects. <LI>Co–locating Multiple Images: information extraction from images viewing the same location/object including multiple vantages and orientations. <LI>Imaging as a Biomarker: Robust statistical methods for quantitative methods, such as for drug/therapy response. <LI>Automatic Target Recognition (ATR): identifying and tracking features in an image, and extracting position and orientation information for various applications. <LI>Hand and Body Gesture Recognition: for human–computer interaction and device control. <LI>Sign Language Recognition: as a computer input and as a communication tool, including finger alphabets. <LI>Facial and Behavior Understanding: including facial emotional content. <LI>Time–Varying and/or Multiple Image Medical Imagery: applications and techniques used in the medical community. <LI>Time–Varying and/or Multiple Image Algorithms and Tools: required or enabled by the time–varying image sources. <LI>Computer techniques for historical film and television preservation and restoration. </LI>
