Abstract

Two of Asia′s leading conferences in photonic research and technologies, The Asia Optical Fiber Communication and Optoelectronic Exposition and Conference (AOE) and Asia–Pacific Optical Communications (APOC) will combine to form one comprehensive conference and tradeshow exhibition. Taking place Nov.2 – 6, 2009, in Shanghai, China, AOE/APOC will become the premier forum for optical communications and photonics technologies in the Pacific Rim. <p style=″text–align: left;″>During the back–to–back APOC 2008 and AOE 2008 events in October, the organizing committees from the two conferences met to move ahead on merging the two conferences and lay the foundation for a combined conference in 2009 and beyond in order to serve the Asia–Pacific opto–electronics industry and academia more effectively. All of the technical societies sponsoring APOC and AOE, the IEEE/LEOS, the OSA, the SPIE, the Chinese Optical Society and the Chinese Institute of Communications, are joining together to co–sponsor the APOC and AOE 2009 conference, and Wen Global Solutions will be the owner of the exposition and will co–manage the joint conference, together with the Local Organizing Committee.
″Both AOE and APOC have provided complementary programming and exhibitions for the Asian photonic technologies and optical communications markets,″ said Elizabeth A. Rogan, OSA executive director. ″By combining these events, we are able to provide attendees and exhibitors with one comprehensive forum, addressing the breadth and scope of photonic technologies and optical communications. From new products and business news to the latest scientific research, the merger of AOE and APOC will provide access to the most significant developments in the field.″
″Combining these two conferences and exhibition will better serve the community, enabling both research and commercial participants to attend one event that covers every sector of photonics from optical communications to solid–state lighting and solar energy on the hardware side and from service providers and carriers to enterprise solutions and systems on the business side,″ said IEEE/LEOS Executive Director Rich Linke. ″We are looking forward to the 2009 event and to the opportunities it will present the industry.″
″Since its inception in 2001, APOC has been building a reputation as the premier optical communications conference in Asia. Merging the robust APOC technical conference program with the established AOE exhibition will strengthen the links between key international researchers and important industry developers and suppliers,″ said Eugene Arthurs, CEO, SPIE. ″Bridging that gap effectively is a vital prerequisite for making progress toward solving the world′s communications challenges, bolstering the economy, and sharing scientific and engineering knowledge around the globe.″
Historically, Wen Global Solutions has owned and operated the AOE conference and exhibition, with IEEE/LEOS, OSA and the Chinese Optical Society serving as technical co–sponsors. SPIE, the Chinese Optical Society and the Chinese Institute of Communications have organized APOC.
About IEEE/LEOS
IEEE/LEOS is focused on advancing the interests of its members and the laser, optoelectronics, and photonics professional community by: providing opportunities for information exchange, continuing education, and professional growth; publishing journals, sponsoring conferences, and supporting local chapter and student activities; formally recognizing the professional contributions of members; representing the laser, optoelectronics, and photonics community and serving as its advocate within the IEEE, the broader scientific and technical community, and society at large. Since 1916 OSA has worked to advance the common interests of the field, providing educational resources to the scientists, engineers and business leaders who work in the field by promoting the science of light and the advanced technologies made possible by optics and photonics. OSA publications, events, technical groups and programs foster optics knowledge and scientific collaboration among all those with an interest in optics and photonics. For more information, visit www.osa.org
About SPIE
SPIE is the international optics and photonics society founded in 1955 to advance light–based technologies. Serving the interests of its more than 188,000 active constituents representing 138 different countries, SPIE acts as a catalyst for collaboration among technical disciplines for information exchange, continuing education, publishing opportunities, patent precedent, and career and professional growth. As the organizer and sponsor of approximately 25 major conferences and education programs annually in North America, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific, SPIE provides publishing, speaking, and learning opportunities on emerging technologies. SPIE contributes more than $1.6 million annually in scholarships, grants, and other programs supporting research and education around the world. For more information, visit www.SPIE.org.<…;
