The Internet has revolutionized and changed the way we communicate, socialize, entertain, access information and
conduct business. The future Internet will be characterized by interwoven but distinct clusters of applications, rather than serving as an application–agnostic data highway:
– the Internet–of–Things will emphasize ultra frequent micropackets (sensor events and the like)
– the Internet–of–Contents will cope for both live and time–shifted streaming access to ever growing amounts of media, in spectrum of available bandwidths that is yet growing
– the Internet–of–Services will drive the world′s economic globalization and mediate between market stakeholders (rich and developing nations; multinationals, micro–enterprises, citizens, ...)
– in the Internet–of–Crowds, issues like privacy concerns, sustainable business models, and competitive functionality will further the foundations of Online Social Networks and Crowdsourcing technology
– the Internet–Mobile may overcome preventive roaming tariffs and may reflect users′ privacy and being–in–control
concerns despite opposite interests of both OS vendors and network providers
– an Internet–of–Clouds may provide computing + storage + network as a utility via plugs–in–the–wall, comparable to the unrestricted access and easy provider change common in today′s Internet
Several technology drivers will forward the Internet across all these application clusters, such as the 3D–Internet, Internet centric natural language and image processing, Web X.0, and more.
The symposium provides a forum for researchers and practitioners from the academic, industrial, public and
governmental sectors to share their latest innovations on technologies and applications on the pathway to this future Internet.
